Next Steps
This report marks the State Bar’s inaugural effort in a comprehensive research agenda aimed at evaluating the landscape of California’s law schools. Future research will delve into the multiple facets of legal education identified in this report. Plans to augment the CALS and unaccredited schools’ annual compliance data reporting requirements are already underway. New reporting requirements will include retention efforts and attrition among 2L students. Lastly, as an integral part of the State Bar’s commitment to transparency and accountability, a law school performance report for the CALS and unaccredited schools will be regularly produced for the CBE and the Board of Trustees to facilitate meaningful policy decisions and advance the quality of legal education within these two categories of schools, which are regulated and monitored by the State Bar, ultimately fostering an environment of continuous improvement and excellence in legal training across the state.
